Sodium Dodecafluoro-3H-4,8-dioxanonanoate (NaDONA)
NaDONA (sodium dodecafluoro-3H-4,8-dioxanonanoate) is an ether-based PFAS used in fluoropolymer manufacturing, related to ADONA. Like other next-generation PFAS replacements, NaDONA was developed to avoid the regulatory restrictions placed on PFOA. However, its presence in environmental monitoring data has raised questions about whether these replacements are truly safer. NaDONA is monitored under UCMR5 to track its occurrence and distribution in US drinking water systems. Its environmental persistence and health effects are still being characterized by researchers.
