Ammonium 4,8-Dioxa-3H-Perfluorononanoate (ADONA)
ADONA (ammonium 4,8-dioxa-3H-perfluorononanoate) is an ether-based PFAS used as a processing aid in fluoropolymer manufacturing, developed partly as a replacement for PFOA. It has been detected in surface water and drinking water near chemical manufacturing facilities in Europe and the United States. ADONA is monitored under UCMR5 as part of the effort to track next-generation PFAS replacements. Limited toxicological data exists for ADONA compared to more studied PFAS compounds, but structural similarities to other fluorinated ethers raise concerns about potential liver and kidney effects.
