Perfluorodecane Sulfonic Acid (PFDS)
Perfluorodecane sulfonic acid (PFDS) is a 10-carbon sulfonated PFAS included in UCMR5 monitoring. With its long carbon chain, PFDS is expected to be among the most bioaccumulative of the sulfonated PFAS compounds. It is rarely detected in routine water testing but has been found near certain industrial sites. PFDS is structurally similar to PFOS but with a longer chain, which increases its tendency to accumulate in biological tissues. Its detection in drinking water is considered a significant indicator of industrial PFAS contamination.
